The team sheets are out for the early Saturday kick-off between Manchester United and Leicester City at Old Trafford and it is Wayne Rooney that has made waves as Jose Mourinho has chosen to drop the United captain to the bench.
Twitter responded quickly to Mourinho’s decision with a vast majority of people supporting his decision while also hailing the Portuguese manager for taking a step which the media and pundits deemed necessary at the moment.
No Fellaini or Rooney you say. No excuses now lads. Jose is the man. #Ruthless

This feels like a huge moment in Wayne Rooney’s future at Man Utd. Finally a manager steps up and does the right thing.

Delighted that Rooney is dropped. This is a good team, it feels balanced. Think a Carrick type is a miss, maybe. But it’s a start! #MUFC

Rooney dropped. Exactly what he and United need. Let’s hope there’s a reaction from both today. #MatchdayMac

A few fans, while admitting that it was the right move, hoped that this will be the making of Rooney’s second wind and that the United captain would respond positively to it.
Rooney out, hate to say it but think it’s the right decision. His confidence was gone the last few matches. If anything it will do him good!

All the United fans would hope this would be enough to spark United’s campaign back to life after a few stuttering performances.
