Kerala Blasters announce their squad for the third edition of the Indian Super League
Runners-up in the inaugural edition, Kerala Blasters will be looking to make amends in the third edition of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) after a disappointing run in season 2. The Sachin Tendulkar-owned franchise, on Wednesday, unveiled its squad for the upcoming ISL campaign.
Marquee player Aaron Hughes is undoubtedly the biggest name in the Yellow Brigade. The former Newcastle and Fulham defender will make his first appearance in Indian’s premier footballing competition, and will be hoping to turn the fortunes around for his side.
The other top names in the side are Graham Stack, Michael Chopra and Kervens Belfort. A host of quality players in Antonio German, Josue, Sandesh Jhingan, Mehtab Hossain, Sandip Nandy, Mohammad Rafi and Gurwinder Singh have been retained by the Blasters.
Steve Coppell, a former Manchester United player, has been roped by the southern outfit and will be the head-coach for the upcoming edition of the league. In his first interview after signing for Kerala, Coppell said:
“We would like to play an attacking game with width. We are right now focussed on getting everybody fit and becoming a cohesive unit. We will take it one game at a time. The strategy will be fluid depending on the opposition and we will play within our strengths.”
During the squad announcement, co-owner Tendulkar stated: “We have a talented team of young and experienced professionals who are hungry to go out on the field and give their best. I am looking forward to a splendid performance from our team and urge all the fans to rally behind us.”

On Wednesday, Mumbai City FC announced, via their Twitter handle, that they have signed goalkeeper Amrinder Singh. The young and upcoming shot stopper was in exquisite form last season as he played a pivotal role in Atletico de Kolkata’s run to the top four.
Singh began his footballing career as a striker in the Sports Wing Academy in Punjab, but was molded into being a goalkeeper by his coach who saw tremendous potential in him. At the national level he’s represented his state in the under-17 and under-19 level.
In 2011, Amrinder moved to Maharashtra where he joined the under-19 team of the now defunct Pune FC. Within a few months, he got promoted to the first team and showed tremendous promise for the Red Lizards.
He made his international debut at the Incheon Asian Games in 2014 with the India under-23 team.
