Manchester United have reportedly initiated contact with Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale with the aim of bringing the player back to the Premier League.
Spanish media outlet OK Diario, who are based in Madrid, have sensationally claimed that Manchester United have established contact with Gareth Bale and his representatives in an attempt to convince the player to return to the Premier League.
The Red Devils have offered a whopping £16.7 million annual salary after tax, which is almost double the amount Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to offer the Welsh superstar as part of his contract extension.
Manchester United were linked with a move for Bale in the summer, with reports that the Welshman rejected a £100m move to Old Trafford due to the uncertainty surrounding the managerial position at the club.
Daily Star had reported at the end of the transfer window that Jose Mourinho had earmarked Gareth Bale as the next superstar signing after the capture of Paul Pogba, which may have been the catalyst to Real Madrid offering the attacker a new contract in an attempt to ward off United’s interest.
The news may also be a likely result of recent speculation about the unhappiness in the Real Madrid dressing room with Gareth Bale’s wage demands as they feel the Welsh superstar does not deserve such a significant raise on his current deal.
Given the mammoth wages reportedly being offered to Bale by Manchester United along with the removal of the instability surrounding the club after the appointment of Jose Mourinho, this move is one that makes a degree of sense.
Gareth Bale’s new contract offer at Real Madrid puts him alongside the likes of Sergio Ramos but below Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric. The £16.7 million annual salary being offered by United would be much closer to that of the Portuguese superstar.
However, there is a long way to go to a transfer as any deal is likely to take place when the transfer window re-opens. One must also consider the fact that United currently do not have Champions League football to offer. As such, Gareth Bale is only likely to consider a move next summer if Jose Mourinho’s side secure qualification for Europe’s premier club competition.
Manchester United may just want to take advantage of the reported animosity in the Real Madrid dressing room towards Gareth Bale to convince the Welsh superstar to jump ship and join the Red Devils.
