Everton are reportedly ready to battle Manchester United in order to secure the services of Sheffield United youngster Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The Daily Mirror have claimed in their report on Wednesday that Manchester United and Everton are exploring the possibility of securing a permanent transfer for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Sheffield United youngster is on the radar of the Premier League duo, who are ready to fight it out for the exciting prospect.
The report has added that Everton were rebuffed in an approach for the 19-year-old earlier this summer and seem to have revived their interest in the highly-rated forward before the transfer deadline, but face competition from Manchester United, who continue to add young players to their academy and reserves squad.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a forward, but has a natural ability to play the No.10 role for his side. He came through the ranks at Sheffield United before making his senior debut for the club at the age of 18 last season. The 19-year-old has since gone on to make 11 league appearances for the club.
The player was left out of the Blades’ squad for the Checkatrade Trophy tie against Leicester City on Tuesday night amidst rumours linking him with a move to the Premier League.Calvert-Lewin is managed by the same sports agency as Manchester Untied centre-back Phil Jones, which could come in handy in case Manchester United do decide to table a real offer for the 19-year-old.
The Daily Mirror have reported that despite Sheffield United rating the teenage forward highly, a bid of £1m or upwards could see the Blades accepting the offer. With the newfound riches from their new investor Farhad Moshiri, Everton will be compete with Manchester United in terms of money and it would most likely be down to the player to decide which club he wants to join or indeed if he wants to stay and continue his development with Sheffield United.
The player could be swayed by Manchester United due to their superior infrastructure and the possibility to learn from the superstars in the first-team squad at Old Trafford that play in the same position currently — Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney in particular.
