The arrival of Mario Pasalic from Chelsea may not spell the end of Milan’s mercato as their search for a midfielder is still alive. Milan are reportedly interested in former Italy U-21 international Danielle Baselli, who scored a goal against the Rossoneri last week in their opening fixture against Torino.
Italian source Tuttosport reports that Milan could propose a swap deal between Juraj Kujka who was earlier wanted by Torino, according to reports. However, Milan thwarted Torino’s attempts as they deemed Kucka too vital for their squad at that moment. Kucka started Milan’s opening game against Torino and is likely to start against Napoli.
The Situation of Both the Players Involved
The Sloveninan was a regular under Sinisa Mihajlovic during his tenure at Milan after the midfielder was brought on late in the mercato last year. He had a good season and Mihajlovic rates him highly because of his work-rate and passion on the field.
Danielle Baselli, on the other hand, was benched by Mihajlovic for Torino’s opener. However, he was brought on late in the game. He made a significant impact on the game scoring a brilliant solo goal. Baselli also had another blistering strike denied by inches after he had scored the goal.
The 21 year old ex-Atalanta man was a regular under former coach Giampiero Ventura, who is now head of the Italian national team. Along with teammate Marco Benassi, they are considered to be the future of the Italy, which is why they are so sought after.
Baselli was a long term target for Milan, as they had tried acquiring him on numerous occasions before from Atalanta. There were also reports of Milan having an option of first refusal on the player, which unfortunately Milan never exercised when Torino finally bought him and Zappacosta on a double deal from Atalanta.
It looks likely that Jose Mauri will also be leaving Milan for Genoa on a loan deal with an option to buy, which will open up a squad space in case Milan want to bring in one more midfielder.
