Manchester United could make a move for Monaco right-back Fabinho this summer with Marcos Rojo heading in the opposite direction.
According to reports in France (h/t Bleacher Report), Fabinho is intent on moving to the Premier League, given Manchester United’s interest in him. He is also believed to be on the top of Jose Mourinho’s priority list, with the United manager having already completed the signings of his top four transfer targets.
In July, the Brazilian emerged as a transfer target for the Red Devils and Mourinho was planning to shell out £22 million for him. A couple of weeks later, reports suggested that negotiations were in full swing, with him edging closer to a move to Old Trafford.
However, it seemed that the Red Devils had cooled their interest in the player, but it now appears as they may be back in the hunt for him. Due to a certain agreement, if Monaco manage to beat Villarreal to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, Fabinho will be allowed to leave the French side and pursue his career elsewhere.
Also, Monaco seem to be interested in wantaway United defender Marcos Rojo. The Argentine is not a part of Mourinho’s plans and could fancy moving to France in order to clock regular playing time.
Should Manchester United sign Fabinho?
Jose Mourinho’s arrival has seen the resurgence of makeshift right-back Valencia. The Ecuadorian winger was hardly a part of Louis van Gaal’s plans, but now seems to be the first name on the manager’s team sheet.
He is adept going forward and has also become a better crosser of the ball. Often criticised for not tracking back, Valencia has now started to show tremendous maturity and seems to be one of the most focused players in the Manchester United squad.
However, if second choice right-back Matteo Darmian is let go by Mourinho, signing Fabinho would make a whole lot of sense. With Valencia already 31 years old, he would have very few seasons at his flying best.
After Valencia’s career begins to take a downward trajectory, Fabinho, 22, could step up into the first-team and play an important role for the Red Devils.
