After winning a seven-goal thriller against Arsenal in their Premier League opener, the Reds travel to Turf Moor hoping to make it two wins out of two.
The Merseyside club had an encounter that was too close for comfort last time out against Asrsenal. In a match where they were leading 4-1 at one point, they had to hang on at the end for a 4-3 victory. Ideally, Jurgen Klopp would not want any defensive mishaps during Saturday’s match, with a squad that has been bolstered by the return of some key first team players.
However, new signing Sadio Mane’s injury will be a worry. The Senegalese attacker, who scored a beauty against Arsenal, suffered a shoulder injury while training during the week and is ruled out of this fixture. Liverpool will miss his blistering pace and attacking power.
Emre Can though, can come back into the starting lineup after sitting out the game against Arsenal and will be keen to make an impact in midfield. The good news for Liverpool is that James Milner, Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge are all back to full match fitness and will be in contention for a place in the starting lineup.
However, Mamadou Sakho and Lucas Leiva are not yet ready for a return. One of Can, Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana will be one on the bench. Roberto Firmino is likely to retain his place in the starting lineup.
The indifferent form of Alberto Moreno could force Klopp to start with James Milner in the left-back position instead.
Simon Mignolet will, as usual, be between the sticks and will hope to keep a clean sheet while Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne will be at centre-back and right-back respectively. New boy Joel Matip could start alongside Lovren, making his competitive debut for Liverpool.
