Fikret Orman, president of reigning Turkish champions Besiktas, has reportedly flown to England to find a striker for his club after Mario Gomez did not extend his loan deal further.
Last season, Besiktas were thankful to Gomez, who scored 26 goals to become the league’s top scorer and lead them to the title. However, now he has signed for Wolfsburg stating that the decision was due to the tense political situation in Turkey.
This has left Besiktas without a quality striker, and according to Turkish sports magazine Fanatik, Orman will spend the week in England trying to find a decent forward.
Right now, Orman will be looking at the possibility of luring in either Chelsea’s Loic Remy or Machester City’s Wilfried Bony.
Liverpool want to permanently offload Benteke, but apparently Besiktas want him on loan. The financial fair play rules would also deter Besiktas from breaking their bank. The Merseyside club, however, seemed to have reached and agreement with Crystal Palace for the player.
So, Remy and Bony are the more viable options. After the signing of Michy Batshuayi during the transfer window, Remy’s future at Stamford Bridge looks doubtful. The same goes for Manchester City’s Bony, who has lost his place to the new youth sensation in City’s team, 19 year old Kelechi Iheanacho .
With the transfer window closing soon, Besiktas have to act fast. Orman has to do something quickly so that Besiktas do not spend the next season without a decent forward. With the quality of winger Ricardo Quaresma on the flanks, a striker like Gomez can cause havoc to opponents, as was seen in the last season. Remy or Bony can be as good, if not better.
Besiktas kick-start their 2016-17 campaign on 21st August and both Orman and club manager Senol Gunes are anxious to get a deal done before then.
However, it remains to be seen whether any of the players would want to go to Turkey, as political unrest has almost deemed the place unfit for playing football; the same reason for which Gomez returned to Germany instead of staying on.
