Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has recently spoken in astonishment about how people hang on to every word a football manager says. He also explained his reasons for signing a new six year contract at Anfield.
The former Dortmund manager has often been in the media spotlight for his on-field antics, and is regularly making the headlines for his casual manner during interviews and press conferences. He recently admitted he was bemused by how much people paid attention to the words of a football manager.
“A football manager is listened to in a way that actually makes you wonder about the intelligence of the human race,” Klopp said in an exclusive interview with German magazine Stern.
He went on to explain why he has committed his long term future to Liverpool, where he recently signed a contract extension that will keep him at the club till 2022.
“I asked myself, ‘Where do I still want to work?’ rather than ‘What do I still want to win?’ and couldn’t think of many places.Do I want another club in Germany? No. In England? No. In Asia, Russia or the UAE? No, no, no. And then I thought that I am already at the right club and why should I worry about how long I am here for. If I am at the end of my career has managed only three clubs, then at least they were great clubs.”
Liverpool got off to a rollicking start to the new season, with Klopp’s men smashing four goals past Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium to emerge 4-3 winners. The former Dortmund manager has implemented an exciting, high risk, high pressing style at Anfield that has led to some good attacking football being played.
The Anfield faithful will be hoping that Klopp is the man to bring back the glory days to Merseyside. His exuberance on the sidelines and casual demeanour has made him one of the most popular managers in the Premier League, and it remains to be seen whether he can back that up with results on the pitch.
