Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly stunned by the wage demands of star attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen. Meanwhile, Spurs are set to battle AC Milan for Portuguese midfielder Adrien Silva.
Sporting CP and Portugal midfielder Adrien Silva is reportedly Mauricio Pochettino’s top priority this summer, but the Argentine faces competition from Vincenzo Montella’s AC Milan, who are also interested in bringing the player to the San Siro. The 27-year-old impressed at the European Championships in France this summer as Portugal ran out surprise winners.
The central midfielder’s seven league goals helped Sporting to a 2nd place finish in the Primeira Liga and also helped them win the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira. According to a report in Gazzetta World, Silva was a target for the Milan prior to this summer, but the Italian giants now face competition from Tottenham, who plan on making a €13 million bid for him.
The report states that Mauricio Pochettino believes he needs one more midfielder after Victor Wanyama to strengthen in the middle of the park and sees the Portuguese international as the man for the job.
Eriksen demands huge wages
According to the Telegraph, the 24-year-old’s contract negotiations have stalled over his exorbitant wage demands. The Danish international has 2 years remaining on his contract and since arriving for an estimated £11 million in the summer of 2013, he has seen his influence grow within the squad.
His current contract is reported to be worth only around £32,000 a week, but chairman Daniel Levy was left astounded by his £150,000-a-week wage demands. Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela are also yet to extend their contracts at White Hart Lane. After his performances last season for Spurs, it goes without saying that Pochettino would like to keep Eriksen for as long as possible, given that they would like to try to continue their participation in the Champions League and challenge for the title season after season.
Should Eriksen and Spurs not be able to come to an agreement over a contract extension, Juventus and Inter Milan would likely be interested in acquiring his services. Frank De Boer recently took over at the helm for the Nerazzurri and has worked with Eriksen during their time at Ajax.
The Dutchman is reportedly a fan of the attacker and with the financial backing he is set to get from the new investors, Inter may very well be able to afford the Dane should the opportunity present itself. Serie A champions Juventus have also been reported to be interested in the playmaker and given their recent world-record sale of Paul Pogba to Manchester United, there are very few players in the world they can’t afford.
