Jose Mourinho spoke to journalists ahead of the season opener against Bournemouth announcing his ambitions to win the title in his debut season at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho completed his first Premier League pre-match press conference as Manchester United manager and did not hesitate one bit in announcing that his aim for the club was to win the title. Although the Portuguese admitted that he would not be upset if some other team ended up winning the title by performing better than his squad, the way Mourinho announced his title ambitions is something the United fans have not seen in seasons post the Sir Alex era.

The manager also seemed to take a dig by saying that even though more than 3 other teams are likely to aim for the title, they do not admit the fact in front of the press and like to play the media defensively. Mourinho told the reporters,“ Many teams think they can win it (the Premier League) but they are afraid to say it, they prefer to play a defensive game in the press.”
Mourinho was asked about Adnan Januzaj’s future prospects at the club as the Belgian heads out on loan at Sunderland to reunite with Moyes, under whom the youngster had his breakout season at Old Trafford. Jose was, however, quick to shut down the possibility of Januzaj leaving the club on a permanent basis and said he was hopeful the Belgian can prove himself on loan this season.
He said, as per the club’s official website,“ He fits in my plans which is why he’s on loan at a Premier League club. I want to give give him all the conditions to develop and to play well. Hopefully everything will go well for him because we want him back!”
Mourinho was asked about whether he knew beforehand the situation revolving around Pogba’s suspension for the game against Bournemouth, to which he said,“ I knew the situation with the yellow cards but I didn’t know at that time if an accumulation of yellow cards would bring a player to suspension. I didn’t know if the suspension would be in Italian football, a suspension for the same competition, or the correspondent competition in England, the FA Cup.”
The Portuguese praised his counterpart Eddie Howe’s management style and admitted that the game would be a difficult one for Manchester United, but was hopeful for a win in his first league match as United boss. There is an air of expectation around Old Trafford this season unlike anytime else as United supporters look to Mourinho to put and end to the Premier League drought. The road to long-awaited glory for the club and its fans, starts with an away match against Eddie Howe’s men on Sunday.
