Dutch winger Adnan Januzaj has reportedly been ‘humiliated’ by the treatment he has received from the Manchester United boss this summer.
Ever since the departure of David Moyes, Adnan Januzaj has failed to establish himself as a regular at Manchester United. After his breakout season in 2013/14, everything has gone downhill for the Belgian winger, who is now considered to be an outcast at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old spent a fair share of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, but returned to Manchester due to a barren run of form at the Westfalenstadion.
As per recent reports, United were aware of Sunderland’s interest in Januzaj and had set a £10 million price tag on the Belgian. It looked like the 21-year-old was on the verge of joining Sunderland on a permanent basis, but according to Mail Online, Mourinho will only let go of Januzaj on a loan deal. The player is understood to have seen a transfer request rejected, as the club’s hierarchy see him as an option for the future.
It is also reported that the player felt humiliated after he was not included in the manager’s 26-man first-team squad and was banished to train with the under-21s. He will be hoping that a loan spell under Moyes would benefit him, and take his career to the next level.
Paddy McNair and Donald Love join Moyes at Sunderland
In other United related news, defenders Paddy McNair and Donald Love have left the club and rejoined forces with their former manager David Moyes at Sunderland. The club announced, via its official website, that McNair and Love have joined Sunderland on four-year deals each. Both the academy products were given a fair amount of playing time under manager Louis van Gaal, but were understood to be out of favour with Jose Mourinho.
Despite not having promoted them to the first team at Old Trafford, Moyes is understood to be a fan of the players, both products of the Manchester United academy. A number of world-beaters have been a part of the youth setup at United, and the Scottish manager would be hoping that they have signed a decent defensive pairing.
What does the future hold for Mata and Schweinsteiger?
Meanwhile, Juan Mata and Bastian Schweinsteiger also look set to leave the club as Mourinho does not see them as a part of his first-team plans for the 2016/17 season.
Mata, despite being picked for Manchester United’s pre-season tour and featuring in the Community Shield, is still looking for an exit from Old Trafford. Not known to have the best of relations with manager Jose Mourinho, the Spaniard could be offered an exit route by La Liga side Villarreal. The Yellow Submarines are interested in the Spanish midfielder and would make an official bid for him once their Champions League status is confirmed.
Schweinsteiger, on the other hand, had not been picked for the club’s pre-season tour and also was excluded from their Premier League squad for the upcoming season. It was reported that United have offered the German to Juventus in order to ease the loss of Paul Pogba, who left Turin to join forces with Mourinho at Old Trafford. Turkish side Galatasaray are also understood to be in the race for the 32-year-old and are weighing up a £3 million bid for him.
United confirm two new academy signings
Manchester United announced on Wednesday that Tahith Chong and Joshua Bohui had joined the club’s academy. The two youngsters were linked with a move to Old Trafford for a long time and were officially unveiled as United players recently.
Chong has joined the club from Dutch side Feyenoord; the 17-year-old is a winger by trade who is equally effective on both flanks. The Dutchman was recently rewarded for his performances when he won an individual trophy for best attacking player at the Otten Cup, last weekend.
Bohui also featured in the same tournament, featuring for his Bradford side who finished runners-up in the competition. The 17-year-old already has an Under-17 international cap to his name and should be a vital addition to United’s youth setup.
