Real Madrid beat fellow Spanish side Sevilla UEFA Super Cup thanks to an extra time winner from Dani Carvajal.
Real opened the scoring in the 21st minute through a wonder striker by youngster Marco Asensio before Sevilla’s Franco Vasquez hit back with a screamer of his own to level the score. It seemed that Yevhen Konoplyanka’s penalty would be enough to take Sevilla over the line, but Sergio Ramos hit a late equalizer to send the game into extra-time.
In the added thirty minutes, it was all dominated by Madrid and they could finally make something happen in the penultimate minute of the contest with right-back Dani Carvajal’s goal winning the game.

Kiko Casilla: 6.5
Was unfortunate while conceding both goals, but otherwise the second-choice keeper had a decent outing
Dani Carvajal: 8.5
The right-back proved to be a constant attacking threat for Madrid as he kept marauding forward and made a number of telling defensive contributions. He rounded off his night with a wonderfully executed goal.
Raphael Varane: 7
Proved to be a more than able defensive partner to Ramos, and probably did enough to showcase why he is a better option than Pepe.
Sergio Ramos: 8
Like the 2014 Champions League final, the centre-back saved the skin of Los Blancos to force the game into extra time with a well-rounded headed goal.
Marcelo: 8
Was excellent in both thirds of the field and was one of the better players on the pitch.
Mateo Kovacic: 4.5
Looked off the pace and was beaten to the ball time and again in the middle of the park. Sevilla’s Vitolo had the better of him on numerous occasions.
Casemiro: 5.5
Looked shaky at times, but apart from that, succeeded in his role as a midfield destroyer.
Isco: 4.5
His performances justified Zidane’s recent treatment of him. Looked like a shadow of his old self and misplaced the ball on numerous occasions.
Marco Asensio: 9
The youngster rarely put a foot wrong and looked solid from the opening whistle. Also scored an impeccable goal to give Real the lead.
Alvaro Morata: 4.5
Was an anonymous figure for most of the game and did very little to prove that he is a better option to Benzema.
Lucas Vazquez: 7
Looked tireless as he made a number of daunting runs all over the field. Provided the assist for Madrid’s first goal, and looked calm and composed on the ball.
Sevilla
Rico: 6.5
Made a number of telling saves late on but was helpless in two of the three goals his side conceded. Not a bad outing for the goalkeeper.
Nicolas Pareja: 5
The right-sided defender often had his work cut out as he come under the cosh whilst dealing with the likes of Asensio and Vazquez
Carrico: 7
Probably the best out of the three Sevilla defenders on the day. He supplemented the attack and also looked calm defensively.
Timothee Kolodziejczak: 4
Looked average during his time on the pitch before he needlessly made a challenge to receive the dreaded red card.
Vicente Iborra: 5
Did not dominate midfield and was often careless with his passes.
Stephen N’Zonzi: 5.5
Performed reasonably well, but was bullied by Casemiro in the middle of the park.
Hiroshi Kiyotake: 5
Wasn’t the best of outing for the right attacker as he failed to muster a shot on goal.
Franco Vazquez: 7
Looked like one of the bright sparks in what seemed to be a dull Sevilla attack. Scored his side’s first goal and showed tremendous promise as the game progressed.
Mariano: 7
The winger had a good outing as he proved to be a constant threat down the right flank for Sevilla.
Vitolo: 6
The Spanish attacker played a part in setting up the first goal, but apart from that he failed to impress against Madrid.
Luciano Vietto: 5
Not the best of professional debuts he’d have hoped for. Looked isolated up front and even when he had the ball at his feet, did very little to threaten Casilla in goal.
