Galatasaray are reportedly willing to offer £3m in order to bring Manchester United’s midfield ace Bastian Schweinsteiger to Turkey.
The Telegraph have claimed that Turkish giants Galatasaray are interested in Bastian Schweinsteiger and are prepared to bid up to £3m for the Manchester United outcast. The German’s future at the club has been cast in doubt as he has been banished to the reserves by Jose Mourinho, a move that has attracted a lot of criticism from United fans across various social media platforms.
The report claims that the Istanbul giants have been involved in a deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva from Liverpool, but have identified the former Bayern Munich veteran as an alternative as talks have seemingly been going on for a long time. Galatasaray are reportedly ready to pull the plug on the Lucas Leiva deal and pursue Schweinsteiger, a transfer that is likely to go much more smoothly compared to the current target.
While Leiva may still be part of Klopp’s plans at Anfield, Mourinho has made it clear that he has chosen his first-team squad for his first season as Manchester United manager and that Bastian Schweinsteiger is not included in his plans.
The German international managed only 18 league appearances for the Red Devils last term as he was sidelined with injury for a substantial part of the season. The managerial change has hit the 32-year-old hard as Mourinho wants to freshen up the midfield with young players full of energy, with only Michael Carrick making the cut.
As stated above, Bastian has been sent to train with the reserves, adding further insult to injury. The German international might want a change of club before the season starts in order to secure first-team football.
The Turkish club, though, could face competition from their Super Lig rivals Besiktas, who could convince Bastian with the prospect of European football. Galatasaray would be tempted to buy the veteran, who is considered a legend by Bayern Munich fans, while Manchester United may take any amount offered with the aim of moving the player off the books.
