Former Arsenal number one Wojciech Szczesny has re-joined AS Roma on loan, while defender Mathieu Debuchy is close to completing a loan switch to Turkish side Galatasaray.
Out of favour duo of Wojciech Szczesny and Mathieu Debuchy have been reportedly sent out on loan by Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as they hope to clock more regular playing minutes. Szczesny spent the whole of last season at Roma and will be re-joining the Italian side next season. Debuchy on the other hand, moved to Bordeaux on loan in January 2016, but reports suggest that a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray is on the cards.
Szczesny returns to the Serie A
According to Matthew Treadwell of Sky Sports, Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will extend his loan spell at Serie A giants AS Roma. The Polish spent the entire 2015/16 campaign at the Stadio Olimpico, and will continue plying his trade in Italy for the upcoming season.
Szczesny joined Arsenal in the summer of 2006 as a member of the youth setup. He graduated and made it to the reserve squad only three years later, before he was loaned out to Championship side Brentford. In the 2011-12 season, the Polish keeper became the Gunners’ first choice. Two seasons after becoming Arsenal’s number one, Szczesny won his first piece of silverware with the London based club as Wenger’s side triumphed over Hull City in the FA Cup final.
However, after the arrival of David Ospina and Petr Cech a season later, the Polish struggled to establish himself as a regular in the Arsenal setup, and was loaned out to Serie A side AS Roma. He will be now be hoping to oust Morgan De Sanctis for a starting berth at the Italian side.
Debuchy closing in on Galatasaray loan
Reports in Turkey claim that Wenger has given full-back Mathieu Debuchy the green signal to move away from the Emirates this summer. It is understood that Turkish giants Galatasaray are in talks with the defender and are close to signing him on a one-year loan deal.
Since the emergence of right-back Hector Bellerin, Mathieu Debuchy has been a marginalised figure at Arsenal. Signed from Newcastle in August 2014 for a reported fee of £12 million, many saw the Frenchman to serve as an able replacement for Bacary Sagna. However, due to a number of injury worries and constant lapses in form, the former Newcastle defender failed to cement his place in Wenger’s first team.
A move to Galatasaray could work in the best interests of the player who is battling to maintain fitness. Also, the opportunity to get regular playing minutes may benefit the Frenchman and help bring his career back on the right track.
