Bengaluru FC are set to sign star Turkish striker Umut Bulut, as they look to prepare their squad for the upcoming I-League season.
The Blues, who are set to take a new direction after the departure of their former coach Ashley Westwood, have appointed Albert Rocca as their new manager for the upcoming season. Bengaluru have struggled up front last season, with star Indian striker Robin Singh spending most of his time on the bench. Also, their North Korean forward Kim Song-Yong failed to impress last season, managing to score only four goals.
Thus, the Blues are looking to boost their strike force, and are set to table a bid around the region of €3 million (a little over ₹22 crores) for Bulut’s services, according to Turkish newspaper Haber Gazetesi.
Bulut has played for Turkish giants Trabzonspor during the earlier part of his career. He also spent a couple of seasons in the Ligue 1 with Toulouse before returning to his homeland with Galatasaray.
He has been playing for the Avrupa Fatihi since 2012, lining up alongside maverick strikers like Burak Yilmaz and even Chelsea legend Didier Drogba. However, Bulut has been out of form last season, which has prompted exit rumours.
On a sad note, Umut Bulut has suffered a grave personal tragedy recently, as his father Kemal Bulut was killed in a suicide bombing in Turkey.
Peerless SC go top of CFL with a huge win
In the Calcutta Football League (CFL), the oldest active football league in India, Peerless SC have jumped to the top spot after waltzing to a 3-0 victory over Aryan FC on Sunday.
Agogo had put Peerless in front a couple of minutes ahead of the half time whistle. It was more of the same story in the second half, as Aryan failed to find their way back in the game. Argha Chakraborty and Sukhwinder Singh scored in the second half to wrap up the game with a comfortable 3-0 scoreline for Peerless.
This win takes Peerless to the top of the CFL with four points, followed by Army XI (on three points), who have played one game less. It is important to note that Kolkata giants East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, and Mohammedan Sporting are still in their pre-season phase, and are yet to play a game in this season’s CFL.
FC Goa sign Mandar Rao Desai, Romeo Fernandes
FC Goa’s preparations for the upcoming season of Indian Super League (ISL) have been interrupted with off-field incidents, but the Gaurs are on their way to building a strong squad as they have signed the midfield duo of Romeo Fernandes and Mandar Rao Desai.
According to the Times of India, Romeo has already signed for FC Goa, while the franchise has reached an agreement with Mandar who is currently training with La Liga side Villarreal in Spain. However, an official announcement of these signings is not to be expected anytime soon, according to the report.
Mumbai City FC sign Sehnaj Singh
Former Delhi Dynamos player Sehnaj Singh has signed for Mumbai City FC for the upcoming season of the ISL. The 23-year-old was a regular in the Delhi side last season. Former Delhi manager Roberto Carlos often deployed Sehnaj in the midfield alongside the likes of Chicao, Has Mulder, and Florent Malouda.
According to Goal.com, Sehnaj had a number of options to choose from, with Delhi being interested in retaining the 23-year-old’s services. FC Goa were also said to be chasing the former Mohun Bagan player’s signature, but Sehnaj eventually ended up signing with Mumbai City FC. The Chandigarh-born player has played for both the Kolkata giants, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, winning the I-League trophy with the Green and Maroon outfit in 2014/15.
