Transfer Update – Jamie Vardy may be an Arsenal player come the end of the transfer window

Jamie Vardy, who has been Arsenal’s primary transfer target, is still to make a decision about his future. Earlier, the Gunners had reportedly tabled a bid for the Foxes’ striker that triggered his release clause.

All hope may not be lost for Arsene Wenger, as there is still a possibility of Jamie Vardy signing for the London side. As reported by Sky Sports, the English striker is yet to make up his mind about his future, leaving the door open to a potential move to Arsenal. As Arsenal had managed to match his buy-out clause, the decision solely rests with the player, whether he chooses to move or stay put at the King Power Stadium.

Earlier, in an interview with Chinese television, Wenger suggested that the Vardy transfer would not take place. ” Jamie Vardy is, at the moment, at Leicester and from what I know, he will stay at Leicester”, stated the Frenchman.

Jamie Vardy, who is away on international duty at the Euros has chosen to remain coy about the entire scenario. In the build-up to England’s game against Slovakia, the Leicester striker was questioned about his future. “No, nothing at all. I’m just here focused on England and that’s all I want to do”, he responded.

A player of Vardy’s calibre would certainly bring a lot to the table for Arsenal, given their striker crisis. Olivier Giroud has struggled to maintain form, while Danny Welbeck’s prolonged injury record has done little to help his case. Wenger is also eyeing Juventus striker Alvaro Morata, in case a deal for Vardy falls through.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports had also reported that Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, vice-chairman of Leicester City, has said that Vardy will be at the King Power stadium next season, leading the line for the Foxes.

Srivaddhanaprabha said, “You will see the news very soon, but I think he will stay. We need to build the team. We keep continuing to believe that we can do something special in the Premier League and the Champions League.

“The Champions League is going to be amazing for Leicester. Leicester is the underdog and we can still be the underdog.”
