Versatile AC Milan fullback Mattia De Sciglio has been the subject of transfer speculation after his impressive showing at the Coppa Italia final against Juventus at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
The 23-year-old Italian starlet was touted as the “next Maldini” only three seasons ago after his impressive debut season under Masimilliano Allegri, who was then the manager of AC Milan. But like so many Milan youngsters who have been highly rated and appeared destined for the stars, his career has stalled over recent seasons.
De Sciglio would be looking to exit the club based in Lombardy and follow in the footsteps of Stephan El Sharaawy, who has revived his career after a move to Roma. Now it seems that there are appropriate suitors available in the market should De Sciglio choose to move.
Max Allegri calling
The Juventus boss was highly successful with youngsters during his time with Milan — especially with De Sciglio and El Sharaawy. If reports are to be believed from Italian source Calciomercato, it would seem that De Sciglio is on top of the wishlist of Allegri in the summer for the Juventus defence. This is not the first time Allegri will try to call on one of his former players.
During his time at Milan, Allegri had brought in Alessandro Matri from Juventus for a fee of €12 millio — a move that failed spectacularly. Milan will be willing to part with the youngster who came from their youth ranks for a fee around €10 million.
New Suitors
Bayern Munich have also emerged as one of the front runners for De Sciglio’s signature according to Gazzetta dello Sport. Presently it would seem that the Rossoneri would not be reluctant to part with the fullback, whom they had once considered a prized asset.
In recent years, De Sciglio has lost his place in the team to Ignazio Abate. With Luca Antonelli seemingly staying put in the left-back position and Argentina’s Leonel Vangioni joining AC Milan this summer, De Sciglio is likely to be on his way out and Milan having already found a replacement from the youth ranks in the form of Davide Calabria.
