Germany international Mario Gotze has dealt a huge blow to Liverpool’s chances of signing him, as he pledged loyalty to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
Gotze has reportedly been growing discontent at with his situation at the Bavarian club, and is said to have been looking for a way out.
Liverpool emerged as the favourites to sign the 23 year old, with Gotze’s former club Borussia Dortmund also said to be on his tail. However, the Dortmund rumours have died down since the fans of the club unveiled a huge banner that asked Gotze to “p*ss off”.

The Merseysiders became the clear favourites to sign Gotze after this, as the 2014 World Cup winner would get the chance to reunite with his former manager Jurgen Klopp. However, Gotze has put those rumours to rest by pledging his future to Bayern.
“I look forward to the new season in Munich and will do everything possible to be in top shape for my first training session under Carlo Ancelotti,” Gotze said to German newspaper Bild. “I will do everything possible to compete in top shape during my first training session with Carlo Ancelotti.”
Reports had surfaced earlier this year that Gotze, whose contract runs out after a year, has been told by manager Carlo Ancelotti to look for greener pastures. However the German completely refuted these reports last week.
“I don’t know how the editors came up with this,” Gotze was quoted as saying in an earlier edition of Bild. “I wasn’t aware someone listened. There are only a handful of people who know what has been discussed. That’s enough, and that’s all I will reveal. I am under contract until 2017. I know that I still have a valid contract. We’ll see about the rest.”
What has suddenly influenced Gotze to stay?
While it was a well known fact that Gotze was not happy with warming the bench under Pep Guardiola’s reign, his fortunes under Carlo Ancelotti could well turn out to be quite different. The Italian is known to be an accommodating man, unlike the hard taskmaster that Guardiola is. Perhaps a chat with him convinced Gotze to stay.
To add to that, Gotze’s new agent Dr. Peter Duvinage is a Munich-based professor (according to German newspaper Kicker). Dr. Duvinage might have influenced the 23 year old to stay at the Bavarian club. However, Gotze still has just one year left on his current contract, and there has not been any talks of a renewal as of yet.
