Manchester United considering ‘executive role’ for Van Gaal to make room for Mourinho

Manchester United have now reportedly found a way to bring in Jose Mourinho, but at the same time honour their three-year contract with current manager Louis van Gaal.

Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has been linked with a move to Manchester United for over four months now, but thus far Louis van Gaal has remained in the hotseat even after Manchester United’s failure to secure Champions League football for next season.

However, the club must pay heed to the sentiments of the fans and former players, who have raised their voice against the playing style that the Iron Tulip has instilled at the club. Jose Mourinho has emerged as the best option available and in order to make sure they don’t lose out on signing him in the summer, Manchester United have come up with a novel idea to keep both managers at the club.

Louis van Gaal is set to be offered the director of football role while Manchester United will begin negotiations to bring Mourinho to the club after their FA Cup final against Crystal Palace, according to the Sun.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward still rates Van Gaal highly despite the under par season, and wants to use his footballing expertise and experiences in a different role at the club in order to accommodate Mourinho.

Two managers, one repair job

Chelsea vs Porto
Ed Woodward can’t seem to decide on one man for the Manchester United recovery job, so he wants to go with two. The arrival of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford with Van Gaal in the director of football’s role would be an interesting partnership. It could either lead to stability or, given the massive egos at play, backfire spectacularly as the Dutchman and his protégé clash.

Jose Mourinho was Louis van Gaal’s assistant and pupil at Barcelona during his formative years. The two have displayed mutual respect and admiration in the public sphere, so this set-up could end up bearing fruit for Manchester United as they bank on two great minds instead of one to get themselves back to winning ways.
