Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been criticised for what seemed like a public reprimand directed towards forward Christian Benteke following the Reds’ collapse against Southampton on Sunday.
Liverpool threw away a 2-0 advantage at St Mary’s to come away with no points on Sunday. With the game positioned delicately at 2-1, substitute Christian Benteke missed a one-on-one opportunity against Fraser Forster, that was viewed by many as a pivotal point in the game.
Following the final whistle, it appeared that Klopp let his striker know exactly what he thought about his missed chance.

Klopp slammed for public bashing
Pundits on the Match of the Day 2 programme — Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy — opined that the antics of the Liverpool manager were not in good taste, and said that he should have kept it a private affair.
Shearer was quoted as saying by Liverpool Echo: “I understand that he’s not his player, I don’t think he fancies him. He didn’t sign him.
“I understand all of that but I wouldn’t take too kindly If I was a player and he came on to the pitch in front of 32,000 and let his feelings be known.
“No problem if he wants to give him a telling off, or whatever it is, but do it in the dressing room, in the four walls in front of the rest of the players, not in front of all the fans.”
Agreeing with Shearer, former Liverpool midfielder and cult hero Danny Murphy added: “I couldn’t agree more, If you’re going to give someone a telling off then do it inside.
“Sometimes he’s great Jurgen Klopp, he’s been a breath of fresh air but sometimes he’s overly animated on the touchline and it doesn’t always go down well with everyone.”
Benteke on his way out?
Benteke has not had the best of times at Anfield. While he may have admirable skills, the forward’s performance against Southampton illustrated why Liverpool need to cash in on him in the summer.
The attack looked toothless the moment the Belgian came on. BBC’s Ben Smith took to Twitter to reveal to his followers that the forward will be sold in the summer, once again proving that the current Liverpool boss does not see him in his plans.
