Real Madrid gained 3 important points against a bottom-rung Levante, courtesy of goals from Ronaldo, Isco.
This came as some relief to Zidane’s side who had suffered a 1-0 upset last week against cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid at Bernabeu.
According to the club website, Zidane said, “I am left with the performances of everyone; it was a real team victory. It wasn’t easy and we got the three points with work and a great game.”
Although Real Madrid were not as good at the start of the fixture, they picked up tempo as the clock ticked towards the end of the first half.
Marred by injuries, Real Madrid aren’t having the season they would’ve hoped for.
Real Madrid are currently 4 points behind second-placed Atletico Madrid and 9 points behind league leaders Barcelona, who might extend their lead to 12 points following their fixture against Rayo.
“When there are a lot of changes you always think it may make things more difficult, but we have to give everything we have out on the pitch; We have to run and be committed,” Zidane continued.
The Whites have had their own injury concerns over the past few weeks, which can partly be blamed for their shaky performances.
“I was aiming for the game they had. They ended up tired and I will take away the performance of the entire team. When a player doesn’t play a lot, it is difficult but today you couldn’t see that,” he added.
Youth academy product Borja Mayoral stood out against Levante
Mayoral stood out in the fixture and a glimpse of his brilliance was the piledriver shot which hit the woodwork, but luckily enough bounced back into the net with a deflection from Diego Marin, resulting in an own goal.
Talking about Mayoral’s game, Zidane said, “The important thing is to have everyone available. We know what Borja can bring to the team. It is clear that he is the second nine. He plays with confidence and personality.”
Real Madrid face Celta Vigo at home in another La Liga clash this week, and will be looking to add another three points to their league tally.
