Real Madrid succumbed to a 0-1 defeat against Atletico Madrid as a second half strike from Antoine Griezmann sent Cristiano Ronaldo and company crashing out of the La Liga race.
Nine points ahead of Real with a game in hand, Barcelona seem to be in complete control in the title race as Zinedine Zidane registers his first loss since taking over from Rafael Benitez.
Cristiano Ronaldo once again drew a lot of criticism on social media as fans chastised the Portuguese for failing to step up against the big guns this season. While he had plenty of chances to open the scoring for Real Madrid, he eventually failed to take his chances as the club suffered a major blow to their La Liga campaign. Shortly after the final whistle was blown at the Bernabeu, Barcelona put up a picture on Instagram in what appeared to be an indirect jibe at their arch rivals.

In what is fast becoming a ritual, Ronaldo’s inability to score a goal once again drew comparisons with Lionel Messi who is enjoying a fantastic season alongside Luis Suarez and Neymar in Barcelona.

Real Madrid battered weak teams under Benitez with Ronaldo scoring loads, and failed in big games where Ronaldo didn’t shine. No difference.
