Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini has confirmed that he will be at the helm of affairs at the club next season, in spite of the poor performances dished out by his team recently.
The Nerazzurri had a great start to the 2016/17 campaign under the leadership of Roberto Mancini, but have fallen off the pace from the Serie A title race since the Italian season restarted after the winter break. Inter Milan have gone from the top of the league to the fifth position now, 12 points behind league leaders Juventus.
However, in spite of all their recent troubles, Mancini confirmed in the pre-match press conference that he would be at the club in the coming season.
“Yes, I will stay at Inter next season,” Mancini was quoted saying in Inter Milan’s official website.
Viola clash not crucial, says Mancini
The Nerazzurri are fighting to keep themselves in the top three positions in the Serie A, something that would bring Champions League football to at least one half of the San Siro next season. However, the third and final Champions League qualification spot is currently being occupied by AS Roma, who have played one game more, followed by Fiorentina.
Inter Milan would be able to overtake Roma into the third spot, if they can notch up a win in this match against Fiorentina. However, Mancini still does not feel that this match is too important for his team.
“Fiorentina have a lot of technical players who can cause you problems and so we’ll need to be wary. They’re having a great season, it will be a great match albeit a tricky one,” said Mancini. “That said, while it’s important, it won’t be decisive. They concede the odd goal on the counter because they attack so much, consequently we’ll have to be on our guard defensively.”
Inter Milan need time
The squad that Mancini has to work with currently is a hastily assembled one, and that has been amply clear from the start of the season. However, the quality that Inter Milan have has also been quite clear, and it would be interesting to see how they fare when they build their team chemistry to the maximum.
Successive 3-0 losses to title rivals Juventus and arch rivals AC Milan have not done their chances of getting to the Champions League any good, but Inter Milan can start off with a good showing against Fiorentina, and a win in this match would give them a boost, both morale wise, and league position wise.
