A Simple Tip From Manchester United Boss Louis Van Gaal Helped Jesse Lingard Improve His Finishing

Jesse Lingard scored a wonder goal against Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge, and believes that a piece of simple advice from the much criticised manager Louis van Gaal helped him improve his finishing.

Lingard has been a revelation for Manchester United this season, and was one of their best players at a time when everyone else in the team was coming under heavy criticism for playing a ‘boring’ style of football. An injury had stopped Lingard’s season short, but the 23-year-old has now come back from his ailment, and has even gone on to score a very important goal.

“I work on it [finishing] in training and obviously after training. Especially after the Newcastle miss, I’ve worked hard on the training pitch and it came off today,” Lingard was quoted as saying by Manchester Evening News. “He [Van Gaal] just said show more composure and control, control the ball before you shoot.

“I was very happy with the finish [at Chelsea] and it was just instinctive to turn and hit it. It was a great feeling but, at the end of the day, we didn’t get the three points,” Lingard further said.

Long way from Champions League

The Red Devils have been stuttering a lot this season, and now find themselves six points adrift of arch rivals Manchester City, who currently occupy the fourth position on the table. Manchester United need to find a way to turn the draws (like the one that they played out at Stamford Bridge) into wins, in order to get the three points.

One thing that would give them some semblance of hope is the fact that this current season has been highly unpredictable, and just about anything can happen. The Red Devils will be hoping they can once again find themselves in a favourable position to make it to the Champions League next season.
