Jamie Vardy’s Wonder goal for Leicester City against Liverpool FC was no fluke. The striker had spotted that Simon Mignolet was off his line, and had planned to take a shot like that for a long time.
The goal that resulted has been dubbed as one of the best goals we have seen in the Premier League this season, as Vardy took the shot from more than 30 yards out to beat Liverpool FC keeper Mignolet. He was played through behind the Reds defence by partner in crime Riyad Mahrez with an aerial ball.
“I don’t think I’ve ever scored anything better than that. But a goal is a goal and more importantly it’s a win for the club,” Vardy was quoted saying in the Daily Mirror.
“To be honest I’d spotted that the Liverpool goalie (Simon Mignolet) was quite far off his line so when the ball bounced up for me I decided to give it a go,” he continued.
Vardy also seemed to hint that he does not want to go to any other club, and stay at Leicester City instead. He said, “I’d like to be here for a long time. You’ve seen how we are. We’ll be back on the training field and looking towards Manchester City on Saturday.”
Can Vardy get the golden boot?
The Leicester City striker, who experienced a meteoric rise form non-league football, has take the Premier League by storm this season. In fact, he is in the leading position to end up as the top scorer of the league, with 18 goals to his name. Vardy’s nearest contenders are Odion Ighalo, Harry Kane, and Romelu Lukaku — all of whom have socred 15 goals.
