When Carlos Tevez left Juventus for his boyhood club in Argentina, little did the fans know that it was in fact a move from football to wrestling. The Superclasico encounter between Beunos Aires rivals River Plate and Boca Juniors produced an intense match which saw 40 fouls, 9 yellow cards and 5 reds.
Carlos Tevez has experienced quite a few derby matches in Europe, having donned both the red and blue jerseys of Manchester, as well as the stripes of Juventus. But, this past Saturday, he participated in possibly the craziest derbies of his career back home in Argentina, that too in an off-season match.
River Plate came out on top thanks to a penalty that Tevez conceded after blocking a free kick with his arm in the 17th minute. But it wasn’t a straightforward game with players being sent off left and right for dangerous tackles, insulting the referee and even headbutting the Argentine striker. In total, the match involved 40 fouls, 9 yellow cards and 5 red cards.
Neither of us behaved well,” Tevez said after the match, referring to himself and the opposition defender who headbutted him. “You regret it afterwards because it generates violence outside [the pitch].” [via: The Guardian]
