Manchester United have been having a lot of problems up front, and it seems that manager Louis van Gaal is now ready to make a massive A?40 million bid for Everton star Romelu Lukaku.
.
Manchester United have been in extremely poor goalscoring form of late, and this is something that has seen them crash out of the Champions League in the group stage itself, and has also seen them concede their top four position in the Premier League to Tottenham Hotspur.
However, in a bid to solve their problems up front, both Van Gaal and vice chairman of the club Ed Woodward, seem to be looking for new strikers, and are preparing a bid of around A?40 million, according to the Daily Mirror.
Lukaku in hot form
The Belgian striker seems to have left his woeful days at Chelsea FC far behind, as he is scorching the back of the net way too many times than his opponents would like him to. Lukaku has scored an incredible 15 goals so far in the Premeir League this season, and is the joint top scorer of the league along with Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.
Will A?40 million be enough to persuade Everton?
The biggest issue with this would be the fact that Manchester United need to persuade Everton and their manager Roberto Martinez to sell Lukaku. The Toffees have shown that they can really hold on to a player, as they fended off Chelsea FC’s expensive interest in defender John Stones in the 2015 summer transfer window. Manchester United’s reported A?40 million bid is much more than Lukaku’s market value of A?20 million (as quoted by Transfermarkt).
However, the fact that Everton are currently 11th in the league may not help their cause with the top player, as they do not have Champions League football at Goodison Park. On the flip side, Woodward may have to reach deeper into Manchester United’s pockets, if the Red Devils fail to qualify for the Champions League themselves.
