Klopp Steers Clear Of Title Talk, Says He Wants To Focus On One Game At A Time

Christian Benteke’s goal was enough to see off Sunderland at the stadium of light on Wednesday, as Liverpool FC recorded a second successive Premier League win. However, manager Jurgen Klopp has played down talks of Liverpool being title contenders, and believes they will cross the bridge when they come to it.

It was a decent performance by the Reds at a difficult stadium, as they created a number of chances in the first half. Benteke scored early in the second period and the Belgian has netted two goals on the spin for the Reds, finally paying back installments of the A?32.5 million.

Klopp plays down title talk

Klopp stressed on the uncertainty in the English league, and is unsure of Liverpool’s chances of winning the league after the Reds avoided a fourth consecutive away defeat last night.

“No, I don’t know [if we are title contenders],” Klopp told Sky Sports.

“You can see we both have 30 points, and you can see how at Manchester United the atmosphere isn’t the best, so you can see how football can be sometimes. “

Focus on next game

Klopp said this a time when players will enjoy with their families, and the team will only focus on the game that follows and nothing beyond that.

“But we have not to look at it. We wanted at least 30 points and we’ve got them. We go home, celebrate New Year’s Eve with the family, then go to West Ham and try to win again.”

Can Liverpool challenge for the title this season?

Liverpool are up to seventh position after victory against the Black Cats and one half of the season still to be played. This could be a season where the eventual league champions will have between 75-80 points, which is relatively less as compared to other seasons. The likes of Manchester City and Arsenal are most likely to get their hands on the Premier League trophy, but they too, are experiencing regular slip-ups.

As for Liverpool, they need to pull a string of wins together in early 2016 to give themselves a real chance of winning the league.
