Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara Could’ve Been At Manchester United If He Had Listened To David de Gea

24-year-old Thiago Alcantara is an integral part of a dominant Bayern Munich team, but he was once tempted to join Manchester United from boyhood club Barcelona.

Central midfielder Thiago Alcantara is regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in the game alongside the likes of Eden Hazard and James Rodriguez, and has been an important member of a Bayern Munich team that has been wreaking havoc in Germany and Europe.

The Spaniard moved from boyhood club Barcelona to Munich in 2013, but it was a year which also saw him linked very heavily with David Moyes’ Manchester United. Thiago recently revealed, according to The Daily Mail, that his national teammate David de Gea tried his best to get him to come to Old Trafford, but he didn’t receive any serious offers.

‘There was never any firm proposal,’ Thiago said. ‘David de Gea wanted me to join. He wrote a message on my match ball after we’d beaten Italy in the final. But I’d have done the same with him. He is one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world. You always want to play with the best.”

Move to Premier League on the cards?

Thiago expressed his admiration for the Premier League, but also said that he was happy where he was at the moment.

.

‘All I will say is that it is an amazing league,’ he added ‘It is probably the best league in the world but I’m very happy at Bayern and fulfilled with what I am doing.’

In the present situation, Manchester United would be more than eager to land a player of Thiago’s caliber and must be ruing the fact that they did not make the right move in 2013. With a little help from David de Gea, who knows, it could’ve been Thiago instead of Schweinsteiger commanding the midfield for the Red Devils.
