Injuries and Callup to National squad have forced Chennaiyin to sign Bengaluru FC goalkeeper Pawan Kumar on an emergency basis

Chennaiyin FC signed goalkeeper Bengaluru FC goalkeeper Pawan Kumar on an emergency basis to serve as a temporary replacement for Karanjit Singh on Tuesday.

Kumar, who will be wearing number 28, was signed only for the match against NorthEast United FC, as third Choice goalkeeper Nidhin Lal been ruled out for a month due to injury. Karanjit, who has been called up for national duty, will also be missing leaving Edel Bete as the only fit goalkeeper in the side.

Chennaiyin were forced to sign a replacement, as it is mandatory for each ISL club to have three goalkeepers in their squad, of which a minimum of two goalkeepers are fit for any given match.

Kumar,25, had been the first choice goalkeeper for Bengaluru FC in their debut season, where they went on to win the I-League but found himself relegated to the bench mostly as Lalthuammawia Ralte started in goal. Kumar will be itching to prove his worth and will want to extend his contract as a full time replacement for Nidhin Lal.

.

The Press release said that the rule had forced the hand of Chennaiyin to sign Kumar and this rushed signing helps the clubs satisfy the rule.
