Cristiano Ronaldo has been hailed as the ‘best player ever’ by his agent Jorge Mendes, who also insisted that the Portuguese would end his career with the Spanish giants Real Madrid
The Real Madrid superstar was in London this week for the premiere of his new film ‘Ronaldo’, and the guest list consisted of some big names in the world of football, including his former managers Carlo Ancelotti and Chelsea FC boss Jos Mourinho. Also in attendance, was his agent Jorge Mendes, who spoke to the London Evening Standard about his client’s future.
The super-agent insisted that Ronaldo would end his career at Real Madrid, possibly at the age of 40 or 41. The exaggeration did not quite end there however, as Mendes claimed his client is the ‘best player ever for sure’.
Ronaldo will end his career at Real Madrid
Cristiano Ronaldo has won every competition there is to win at club level with the Spanish giants, while winning many more personal accolades. There has been increased speculation in recent times about his future, with Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague claiming that the Portuguese leaving the club has never been more likely.
Paris Saint-Germain are rumoured to be interested in his signature, and Ronaldo only fueled speculation by whispering in Laurent Blanc’s ear after Real Madrid beat the Ligue 1 side in the UEFA Champions League, while also greeting PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi with an unmistakable wink.
However, his agent Jorge Mendes has been consistent with his comments about his client’s future, and reiterated that he expects Ronaldo to finish his career with Los Blancos. He is quoted by Standard Sport as saying:
“We must wait maybe 10 years because I said many times and I think he will finish his career about 40 or 41 years old. I’m sure that he will finish his career at Real Madrid and after that we will see, it’s too soon.
“He’s the best player in the world and, for me, he’s the best ever for sure.”
Very little Mendes says can be taken at face value
The super-agent has made a name for himself in the football world as arguably the single most powerful broker in the industry, boasting of such clients as Cristiano Ronaldo and Jos Mourinho. However, there is very little the Portuguese says that can be taken at face value.
His declaration of Ronaldo being the ‘best player ever for sure’, for instance, is an exaggeration to say the least. As is the claim that Ronaldo will play on till the age of 40 or 41. In terms of the Real Madrid superstar’s future, however, he may well have a point.

It is difficult to imagine a club being ready to make such a huge investment in a financial sense on a player who will turn 31 before the end of this season. PSG might just be the only club who would be willing to make that offer — not only because it would elevate them to the level of the European elite, but also because they have several saleable assets, including the likes of Marquinhos, Marco Verratti, Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi who have been linked with moves away in recent times.
