Real Madrid manager Rafael Benitez has insisted that he fought to keep defender Sergio Ramos, while refuting reports alleging he has had a bust-up with the Spanish international.

Sergio Ramos and Rafael Benitez were involved in a rather public mud-slinging following the draw against Atletico Madrid.

Benitez criticized Ramos over his challenge that led to a penalty for Atletico Madrid, with Ramos hitting back by questioning Benitez’s substitutions at half-time.

Benitez refutes claims of Ramos bust-up

.

The manager has said that there is no issues between him and the Real Madrid captain, contrary to the rumors doing the round.

“I fought more than anyone for Ramos to stay. There are absolutely no problems between us,a he told Onda Cero radio’s ‘Al Primer Toque’, as was quoted by Goal.com

a He’s our captain, an outstanding footballer and he has to keep showing that.a

Benitez says all good in Real Madrid dressing room

The news of the bust-up with Ramos is not the only one doing the rounds, with Benzema also reportedly not happy.

The French forward said that he was a fed upa with Benitez’s policy of subbing him, but the Spaniard insists that the morale at Real is high.

“I’m surprised by the number of stories they make up,a he added.

a We have a great dressing room and there is a very good, relaxed and healthy atmosphere amongst the players

a We’ve got Benzema back at his best, although he still receives lots of criticism. We’re rationing his playing time

“I don’t have a problem with any player in the squad. I had a good, long chat with Cristiano Ronaldo yesterday.

a Coaches have to control a group of professionals but not what their agents say. Ronaldo and Bale don’t have any problems.a

Last chance for Rafa

Benitez is not really known for his people management skills, with his former captain Steven Gerrard stating that Benitez was someone who hardly praised his players.

Rafa’s time at Inter as well as at Chelsea and Napoli is littered with players who did not have the best of words for the former Liverpool FC manager.

Benitez’s reputation as a manager will take a significant hit if he fails his in his role during his stint at Real Madrid, too.

He must ensure that his player management techniques, or lack thereof, do not hinder him in his job.
