As Liverpool FC prepare to tackle Manchester United at Old Trafford, manager Brendan Rodgers has defended the lack of goals from the Anfield side as a momentary thing that will go away as his players settle in.
Liverpool FC once again made major changes to their squad in the summer transfer window, bringing in more than seven players after finishing a disappointing sixth in the table.
The start to the season was impressive till the last game against West Ham. Familiar problems once against wavered its ugly head with the attack looking blunt and the defence once again self-destructing. The result was a 3-0 hammering from the Hammers at Anfield.
Rodgers defends lack of goals
The first four games has seen Liverpool FC score just twice. And arguably, one of them should have been ruled out for offside.
Defending his side’s lack of goals, manager Brendan Rodgers was confident that once the team settles in, the goals will start flowing.
He was quoted saying by This Is Anfield:
a I think it will increase and improve as the team improves over the course of the season,a he said.
a Wea ve created chances to score more goals than we have.
a We didna t create enough in the West Ham game and we were disappointed, but I know it will get better.
.
Brendan Rodgers should ensure that things get better. More than anyone, it will be helpful for his stay at Anfield because the patience at the club is running thin following a poor showing last season.
Rodgers patient with Sturridge recovery
One way the goalscoring can improve is with the return of forward Daniel Sturridge. The English forward has undergone an operation after having missed the majority of last season. Just back in training, the forward still has sometime to go before he returns to first team action, as per Rodgers.
a Sturridge is looking the best he has in 18 months, so ita s going to be really good when he gets back.a
a I dona t want to put any timeline on him to come back, [but] Ia m grateful of the work hea s done in America, and Ia m grateful of our medical team for doing their job to get Daniel back to a level of fitness.
a Hea s joined in with the group and now wea ll seea wea ll take it day by day.a
