Real Madrid won their second International Champions Cup of this pre-season with a 10-9 penalty shoot-out victory over AC Milan in Shanghai.
New recruit Kiko Casilla was the star of the show, as he converted his spot kick, finding the top-corner with his right-footed strike before saving his opposite number Gianluigi Donnarumma’s penalty to win the match. 16-year-old Donnarumma had earlier saved Toni Kroos’s penalty and kept his side in the competition, after new signing Carlos Bacca had shot wide from the spot.
Real Madrid’s second International Champions Cup of the pre-season
Last week, Real Madrid claimed the International Champions Cup of Australia after beating Manchester City 4-1.
Kiko Casilla was at his best during the win over Milan, saving two second half strikes from Colombian striker Bacca. Earlier, M’Baye Niang had troubled the Spanish giants with his pace, almost running clear in the 40th minute, before taking a heavy touch which resulted in him clattering with Keylor Navas.
After some nice work by Jese Rodriguez, Toni Kroos found himself with plenty of space at the edge of the box to shoot, however, his strike was deflected wide. Former Real Madrid shot-stopper Diego Lopez kept out a Cristiano Ronaldo header after some nice build-up by Spaniard Isco.
In the dying stages of the match, Bacca unleashed a venomous drive which looked destined for top corner, however, Casilla pulled off an even better save to deny the 28-year-old. Bacca who was unlucky with his finishing, missed in the penalty shoot-out and Real could have easily claimed the victory then, if not for 16-year-old Donnarumma, who stopped a Toni Kroos penalty. Donnarumma’s effort was later saved by Kiko Casilla, and the former Espanyol shot-stopper buried the penalty to win the game for Real Madrid.
