Ander Herrera Relishing Midfield Competition From Schweinsteiger And Schneiderlin

Ander Herrera has welcomed the competition in the Manchester United midfield, welcoming the signings of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.

The central midfield area has been a hotly debated topic among the Manchester United fans in recent times and with the signature of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin to add to the signing of Ander Herrera last season, the club have now completed the midfield overhaul.

‘Squad and not a XI needed to compete on all fronts’

.

Herrera had, for sometime in the middle of last season, lost his place in the starting XI but, was back as a regular in Van Gaal’s side towards the end of the season following his A?28.8 million move from Athletic Bilbao in June 2014.

The new signings means an increased level of competition among the central midfield players and Ander Herrera has welcomed the arrivals of Schweinsteiger from Bayern Munich and Schneiderlin from Southampton with the duo all set to give him two more rivals for a place in the side.

“We want to play in the Champions League, fight for the FA Cup and the Premier League,” Herrera told reporters. “When you want to make a good season, it’s not just with 11 players.

“I wish there were not but there are injuries, and there are good and bad moments for the players, so everyone is going to be involved in what I think will be a very good season.“

Schweinsteiger a role model

Hailing World Cup winner Schweinsteiger as a role model Herrera said he is relishing the chance to learn from the German maestro.

“He is someone I looked up to coming through the ranks,” he said. “He is one of the five or six best midfielders in the world and of course I have to learn a lot from him, Michael Carrick and others.

“I always want to play with the best players and Bastian is one of the best in the world. I’m sure I am going to learn a lot of things from him.

“He is always safe with the ball. He always knows what is happening behind him and I have to learn that from him.“
