Liverpool defeated Brisbane Roar 2-1 in the second match of their pre-season tour. It was a competitive game, especially compared to their first game where they strolled away to victory (4-0 against Thai All Stars).
The Reds went behind early in the game but goals from Adam Lallana and James Milner ensured Liverpool were spared the blushes of losing to a lesser team in the pre-season.
Joe Gomez doing extremely well in the pre-season
The thing that excited most Liverpool fans, despite great goals from both the Englishmen, was the performance of 18 year old Joe Gomez. The defender was signed from Charlton Athletic for A?3.5m this summer.
The player is primarily said to be a central defender but can also play the full-back roles. In the two pre-season games for Liverpool, Gomez has played right-back and left-back once each.
Upon his signing, many thought that since he is only 18, he is a player “for the future” and is likely to be sent out on loan like Tiago Ilori. After the match, Rodgers confirmed much to the Liverpool fans’ relief, that the youngster will stay and fight for a place.
He said, a Hea s staying. I’ve seen enough in this period. Watching him and his personality a hea ll be staying, hea ll get games”
Here are some of the reactions to Gomez’s solid display from the Liverpool fans on Twitter
Remember when rival fans took the piss out of us for signing Joe Gomez from a Championship team for A?3.5m. Haha.
