Liverpool FC are set to lose as much as A?9m in the sale of Raheem Sterling to Manchester City due to a sell on clause when the player swapped QPR for Anfield in 2010. .
Raheem Sterling is on the verge of completing a 49 million GBP move to Manchester City, with the citizens paying 44 million GBP up front and 5 million GBP in additional fee based on the player’s appearance.
Liverpool, however, will lose a significant chunk of that fee owing to a 20% clause that was inserted by QPR when they sold Sterling to Anfield for just 500k GBP.
Liverpool could see as much as A?9m with the clause, one of the primary reasons the club were reluctant to let Sterling go for anything significantly below their 50m GBP valuation of the winger.
As per reports in the Telegraph, Sterling is set to earn 200k per week with Manchester City, a deal that sees him make A?10.4m every year in his five year contract.
Coupled with 49 million GBP transfer fee, the player will become English football’s first 100 million GBP man.
