Robin Van Persie will report to the Manchester United training base at Carrington today despite persistent rumours linking him with a transfer away from the club.
Manchester United marksman Robin Van Persiea s future has come under increasing speculation in recent times, with reports of a contract offer from Fenerbahce surfacing over the past few days. The Dutch Striker, who joined Manchester United in 2012 in a 24 million pound transfer, has just a year left on his contract and is widely expected to leave Manchester United this summer. Despite firing the Reds to the title in his first year, his form has dipped terribly, with a paltry return of just 10 goals in all competitions last season.
However, Van Persiea s agent, Kees Voss, refused to address the imminent departure of his client, instead declining to confirm whether Van Persie had received an offer from Turkish Super Lig runners up Fenerbahce.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News . on Sunday the 5th of July, Voss was quite coy about his clienta s future, merely stating a If Robin had found a new club, we would have announced it. All I can say is that tomorrow Robin will be at Manchester United to report for the first training session.a
It is quite revealing how far Robin Van Persiea s stock has fallen at Old Trafford, that neither the club nor the player has once stated that he would remain at Manchester United beyond this season. With Radamel Falcaoa s departure, and the recent sale of young Angelo Henriquez, it was widely believed that Van Persie would stay for the foreseeable future, as United have limited options in attack. Javier a Chicharitoa Hernandez is sidelined with a neck injury and is expected to be sold once he regains fitness.
That leaves Louis Van Gaal with only Wayne Rooney and young James Wilson the recognised strikers at the club. It is possible that Memphis Depay would be able to slot into the role of a striker, but as many (such as Mateja Kezman and Alfonso Alves) have discovered, scoring in the Eredivise does not guarantee success in the Premier League. Manchester United may have been keen to use Robin Van Persie as a super-sub, but the player insists that he requires playing time in the run up to Euro 2016. With United reportedly interested in Harry Kane and Edinson Cavani, it is extremely unlikely Robin Van Persie would stay on to become the third-choice striker at Old Trafford.
If Van Persie does join Fenerbahce as reported, he would have a familiar face from his time in England around him, with United Winger Luis Nani who underwent a medical on July 5th to secure a 3.5 Million Pound transfer to the Turkish Giants.
