With Rafael Benitez set to take over at Real Madrid, former goal-keeper Bodo Illgner claims that Cristiano Ronaldo could become a problem for the new manager as he is likely to object to Beniteza s policy of rotating the squad.
Having sacked Carlo Ancelotti for failing to deliver any trophies, Real Madrid look to turn over a new chapter with Rafael Benitez, who publicly stated that the present Madrid squad was the best that he has had at his disposal during his managerial career. However, Benitez swears by his rotational policy, one that is unlikely to go down well with Cristiano Ronaldo who seeks to participate in every competitive fixture possible. Bodo Illgner believes that it will be crucial for Benitez to win over Ronaldo and Gareth Bale to his side while acclimatizing his rotational policy at Real Madrid.
“Ronaldo could become a problem for Benitez. He has to integrate him and Gareth Bale as part of the collective and maybe put them on the bench sometimes to allow them an essential break.a
“In this case, Benitez has difficult work to do. He is known as a coach who likes to rotate but he has to do that in a smooth way. That will be his main challenge.a

Cristiano Ronaldo has been rumoured to suffer from a dodgy knee, one that kept him out of the closing stages of the 2013-14 season while rendering him helpless in the 2014 World Cup. 30 years old, Ronaldo will be keen to maximize his efficiency while protecting his body in order to maintain his impeccable physical standards. It will be interesting to see if Benitez can indeed convince Ronaldo to a take a breaka while winning him over to his side.
