Arsenal . are considering a move in signing Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak, according to the Times.
Arsene Wenger was boosted by the presence of Coquelin in the second half of last season as the young Frenchman performed exceptionally in the defensive midfielder role for the club but the manager knows he needs to reinforce that department if he has a shot at competing with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United for the title next season.
Arsenal have been linked with Morgan Schneiderlin for a very long time but the due to the Saints’ heavy asking price for the France international, the Gunners are expected to pull out of the race for the player. Manchester United, who like Arsenal are linked with both Krychowiak and Schneiderlin, are now expected to make the latter their primary target in the summer now.
Meanwhile, Wenger is expected to turn his focus on Sevilla’s Grzegorz Krychowiak.
Arsenal were heavily linked with the Poland international in the winter window and have now turned their focus back on the Europa League winner.
Krychowiak moved to Sevilla during the summer transfer window of 2014 from Ligue 1 side Reims and he made the place of defensive midfield his own with his consistent performances. The Pole made 45 appearances for the Spanish side in all competitions last season, scoring four goals and grabbing an assist in the process. He scored in the final of the competition and was an instrumental part in Unai Emery’s side winning the Europa League. He has over 20 appearances for the Poland national team since his debut in 2008.
Krychowiak has a A?21m release clause in his contract and Sevilla will not part with the defensive midfielder for any lesser price. With other clubs, notably Manchester United, also in for the player, Sevilla are expected to make a big profit on the player they bought from Reims for a 4.5m. Arsenal need to move quickly in the transfer window as Louis van Gaal’s side are also monitoring the Polish star.
The 25 year-old has done very well for himself in the last few seasons and has made a name for himself in his impressive performances for Sevilla. The player would be a good addition in Wenger’s side, providing adequate competition for Coquelin who is still young and needs to be on his toes. Arsenal also have four competitions to worry about and having two strong players for one position will naturally only have advantages.
