Liverpool FC will consider the former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen and Pako Ayestaran as potential assistants to Brendan Rodgers

Brendan Rodgers agreed to the dismissal of his long-serving assistant Colin Pascoe and first-team coach Mike Marsh during an end-of-season performance review with FSG, the owners of Liverpool FC.

Brendan Rodgers managed to keep his job in the meeting with Tom Werner, the club chairman, and Mike Gordon, the president of FSG, but the duo insisted on making change at the coaching level.

.

The Liverpool FC manager accepted that there was an urgent need to recruit a proven top-level coach following the teama s disappointing sixth-placed finish last season.

A move for Dutchman Rene Meulensteen is being touted, with the former Manchester United first-team coach top of the list of the Anfield heirarchy. Muelensteen criticised Brendan Rodgers last November by claiming that his a biggest failure is that he’s not invested in his staff.a

Meulensteen is currently working as a consultant with MLS outfit Philadelphia Union and has experience as a manager with Anzhi Makhachkala and Fulham since leaving Manchester United in the summer of 2013 following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pako Ayestaran is another name being considered by Liverpool FC, despite reports emerging that the Spaniard is interested in only managerial roles.

Ayestaran worked as Rafael Beniteza s assistant during the first three years of the Spaniarda s reign at Anfield as manager between 2004 and 2010 before taking similar roles at Portuguese giants Benfica and Valencia. The Telegraph reckons that he is keen to return to Liverpool FC after recently guiding Maccabi Tel Aviv to a historic domestic treble in Israel as the manager.

It remains to be seen if Meulensteen or Ayestaran accept the role at Anfield. Should they, it will be a much needed injection of quality backroom staff at Melwood, in what is fast turning out to be a crisis of a unique kind.
