Liverpool Have Contacted Ancelotti For Managerial Job: Marca

Liverpool FC have contacted Carlo Ancelotti, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The 55 year-old was sacked as manager of Real Madrid after two seasons in charge of the Spanish club. The Italian led Real to victory in the Spanish Cup before claiming the club’s 10th Champions League last season.

But this Real Madrid ended the season without silverware as they were knocked out by Juventus in the Champions League semi-finals, while Barcelona won La Liga. A season without a significant trophy to show is not enough at Real Madrid, as seen previously so Ancelotti’s sacking didn’t seem so bizarre and was expected.

Napoli and former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is the favourite to take over the vacant role once the Italian season ends. Benitez has been linked with a move to Liverpool largely because of sentimental reasons and because the Spaniard has his family living in Merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp has been the other widely used name linking him with a move to Merseyside.

Its time for Carlo Ancelotti to join the party. Spanish newspaper Marca – often said to be the mouthpiece of Los Blancos – claim that Liverpool have contacted the former AC Milan and Chelsea boss as they are interested in the services of the manager to take over the reigns from Brendan Rodgers. They also say that while Ancelotti has been approached by other clubs, he too is very interested in joining Liverpool and returning to the Premier League, where he has spent successful seasons with Chelsea. Marca even say that the 55 year-old was initially going to take a one year sabbatical from football but Liverpool are a club he would change his plans for.

There were reports some days back that Rodgers’s position as Liverpool manager was safe despite a poor season and a horrible 6-1 finish to end it.

While these were not conclusive reports on Rodgers’s future at Liverpool, the fact that most media outlets in England were breaking this suggests there might have been some indication from some source at the club. However, the media seemed reassured days before Kenny Dalglisha s sacking so it remains certain that nobody knows the fate of the manager other than the owners. Therefore it will be wise to not get carried away with any such reports and only once an official announcement comes out from somewhere, will people know certainly of what is going to happen at the club.

Needless to say though, with the availability of top class managers like Klopp and Ancelotti, Brendan Rodgers’s future is currently on thin ice.
