Real Madrid: I Played Poorly, Admits Sergio Ramos

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has accepted that he played poorly in the midfield as Los Blancos were defeated 2-1 by Juventus in the first leg of UEFA Champions League semi final in Turin on Tuesday.

Carlo Ancelotti used Sergio Ramos in the midfield for all important game against Juventus, ahead of the likes of Asier Illaramendi, Sami Khedira and Lucas Silva, as Luka Modric was out injured. But this move of the Real Madrid coach backfired as Sergio Ramos made many errors by constantly giving away the possession to the Juventus players.

And Sergio Ramos accepted after the game that he played poorly. The Spaniard also said that in spite of the defeat, Real Madrid are still very much in contention to reach the finals.

“It was a bad game in general. I played poorly, but this does not worry me,” Sergio Ramos told reporters after the game. “I trust coach Carlo Ancelotti and he trusts me.

“There is still a second leg to go and we can turn the tie in our favour. In this position – midfield – we run more, but I will not highlight any individual error of anyone.

“It won’t be hard at all to play better at the Santiago Bernabeu next Wednesday than we did today. I’m sure everything will change. Giving up is not my nature, it’s not philosophy and it’s not in DNA.”

Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez also lamented the loss of Los Blancos at the hands of Juventus, but he believes that they can still make it to the finals.

“The result is not bad, we have to have faith. We are at home with our fans in the stadium. The Bernabeu has to get behind us,a James Rodriguez told reporters after the game.

“We have to recover and think about next week, because it will be hard. They are going to be back defending, they are strong but we must have faith. We have to go out and kill them.

“The tie is level. We have to go out and win. I think Real Madrid will get to the final.”
