Raheem Sterling’s interview is all that is making news at the moment. The Englishman was the talk of the town yesterday, and still is today, following his exclusive interview with the BBC. The Liverpool starlet talked about how he doesn’t want to be perceived as a ‘money-grabbing 20-year-old’, claiming that he cared more for family and trophies than any wage amount.

The England international has rejected, what manager Brendan Rodgers described as an “incredible offer” – believed to be A?100,000-a-week. Sterling still has more than two years to run on his current A?35,000-a-week deal but Liverpool naturally want to tie down one of their biggest assets to ensure the hoverers in the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Arsenal and Real Madrid, don’t end up taking the player away from them easily. These contract talks have been put on hold until the summer, with the player claiming all the speculation over his new deal has been “a bit much” and he wants to “focus on football”.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes spoke on the matter and said that in his opinion, the 20-year old should stay put at Liverpool since he has it all there. Scholes talked about how Brendan Rodgers is building a team around him and how the player is playing every week and at the age of 20, that is a big thing. The former midfielder said that young players often don’t realize how good they have it when they’re playing so regularly. Scholes also said that Sterling is not a finished article and despite being a world-class talent, he doesn’t score enough goals and one needs to be careful while moving to big, wealthy clubs.

“When it comes to his future, my view is that Raheem Sterling should stay at Liverpool,” he wrote in the Evening Standard.

“They have elevated him from the junior sides and he has a manager who has built a team around him. He plays every week. What more do you need at that age?

“Sterling is a good player. He can beat a man and on his day he looks impressive. But he doesna t score enough goals, not yet anyway. You have to be careful when you time a move to one of the biggest clubs.

“Occasionally, these young players do not realise what a good thing they are on to when they know they are playing every week.”
