Raheem Sterling’s contract situation at Liverpool has been talked about for over three months now and manager Brendan Rodgers admitted ahead of the Manchester United clash that talks are on hold at the moment. Sterling and his agent have put contract talks on hold until the end of the season and speculation about his future continues to grow with reports of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Chelsea vulturing above keep pouring in.

“Not between now and the end of the season,” Rodgers said after being asked whether the matter will be resolved anytime soon.

“It has been made clear by Raheem’s representative and the boy himself he just wants to concentrate on his football and see what can be resolved in the summer.

“I am sure it will be resolved and the concentration for Raheem is now on his football and it is clear the terms of when those talks will begin again.”

Liverpool ECHO Redsa chief reporter, James Pearce said that the club had no intention on paying the player the money his representatives were demanding and also talked about why the hold-ups in talks had occurred.

a I dona t think Liverpool will give in to A?150,000 a week. Speaking to people at the club, ita s clear they have no intention to pay him that much,

a Ia m baffled as to how his representatives are turning their nose up at A?100,000 a week. Sterling is 20 years of age. Hea s not a world-class player, and although hea s potentially top class, hea s not yet the finished product.

a He owes a lot to Brendan Rodgers for making him the player he is. Not many players of his age have played over 100 games for a top club, and if he has any sense he will stay and sign a five-year contract. I believe that will be the case, and that common sense will prevail.a

Meanwhile Manuel Pellegrini has dismissed links that his side were interested in the 20-year old. Earlier in the week he had said Sterling would be worth upwards of A?100million in the current market

“The other day I said a name and an amount of money, not that we want him or that we are going to pay that amount of money,” the Chilean said.
