Former Manchester United and England right-back Paul Parker has revealed that it’s hard to watch the red devils in action thanks to their style of play which is unattractive to say the least.
Manchester United lie fourth in the table thanks to a good run of results that they achieved in early November to late December. Louis Van Gaal’s side went unbeaten in that phase and have lost just twice since November which might say an entirely different story. However, the results have often been achieved by playing football which hasn’t impressed their fans.
Parker, who is a TV pundit now, says his current job is the only reason why he is watching them play, a If I wasna t doing television, I wouldna t watch it. Ita s too painful.
a Ita s negative, not good to watch, ita s disheartening and not enjoyable.
a United are big out in Asia and people come up to me and just shake their heads,” he told the Sun.
United recently lost to Arsenal in the quarter-final tie of the FA Cup which ended their hopes of winning a trophy this season. After having spent more than A?150m in the summer and that too on quality players like Angel Di Maria, Ander Hererra and Radamel Falcao, there is a sense amongst the fans that the Dutchman hasn’t made the best use of the players that he has at his disposal.
After going with a three at the back system for the first few months that produced disappointing results, Van Gaal has gone with the diamond formation off-late. The Old Trafford faithful have seen their side pick up four wins in their last five games at home, but despite the full turnouts, you can still hear the groans in the stadium whenever the ball is hit long instead of playing the short and quick passes that they were used to in the Sir Alex Ferguson days.
United have some tough fixtures coming up as they face Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal who are challenging them for the Champions League places. With quality teams as opponents, Van Gaal’s side will have to play really well if they want to stay where they are. However, Arsenal and Liverpool have been in brilliant form off-late, with the former even beating them earlier this week, and we could see United dropping out of the top four spot if they continue to persist with their style of play.
