Liverpool are interested in Ignacio Camacho as they plan on reinforcing the midfield for next season.
With Steven Gerrard announcing his shock departure from Liverpool at the end of the season, there have been reports of the Reds looking in various places for their next Steven Gerrard. Fans would argue that there is only one Stevie G but Brendan Rodgers knows that he needs to fill the former England captain’s void. So far, Atletico Madrid’s Koke, Marseille,AS Roma’s Miralem Pjanic (most seriously) and a few others have been rumored to be the players Liverpool are targeting in this effort. Latest to join the list is Malaga midfielder Ignacio Camacho.
Born in 1990 in Zaragoza, Camacho initially started out at his hometown club Real Zaragoza at the age of 10. Five year hence, the 15 year old was spotted by Atl tico Madrid, and was signed to its youth academy. He moved through the youth ranks and in 2008, he made his first team debut for the side. He was highly rated at Atletico and many said that he promised to be one of the best home-grown products to have emerged from the Vicente Calderon. However, new signings and some injuries meant that he found it hard to get enough of playing time and in order to do that, he signed for Malaga in December 2010.
The defensive midfielder has been in find form this season and his dominant performances in the heart of the pitch have meant that a number of top European clubs like Inter Milan and Napoli have shown interest in the player, while Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are also interested. More importantly, his good form has got him the attention of Vincent del Bosque and the player earned his first Spain cap recently.
Liverpool are the latest club to show interest in the player, according to Fichajes. The Merseyside team want someone who can replace Steven Gerrard and have identified Camacho as the suitable candidate. The Spaniard can shield the defence well, tick proceedings from the centre and help dominate the heart of the pitch.
Malaga are vary of interest shown in the player from so many clubs and would naturally not want to lose such an important player. With so much interest, any potential transfer is likely to be for a considerable amount.
Liverpool and other suitors have got encouragement in their pursuit after he admitted that he is willing to leave Malaga if the right offer comes in and the club are ready to accept it.
“If I do leave here then I want it to be done well and that Malaga are not angry with me,” Camacho said, as quoted by the Express.
“But I also think you need to look at the market and its value in case you leave. We all know Malaga’s situation, which isn’t too bad, but they could be forced to sell for a reasonable price.”
“It’s always good when teams are looking at you because it means you are doing things right, both individually and collectively. The situation at Malaga is good and that benefits me. I have a contract here but if anyone wants to come in for me, then they will have to negotiate,” the Spanish midfielder added.
