Liverpool want to sign Juventus striker Alvaro Morata in the summer, claim reports.
The 22-year-old joined Italian giants Juventus last summer from Real Madrid in a A?20 million deal and has managed six goals in 19 games this season for the Turin-based side. However, only six of those appearances are starts so his minutes per goal ratio isn’t bad.
According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are keen to make the Spaniard their marquee signing for the 2015/16 campaign.
The young forward was heavily linked with a summer move to both Arsenal and Liverpool last summer, but ended up joining Serie A champions Juventus instead. Arsenal are still said to be in contention for the striker and want to bring him to the Emirates.
Morata revealed that he had offers from England last summer but chose to go to Juventus instead.
During the summer I was training alone, just waiting for my move to Turin,a he said.
a I had offers from England, but in difficult times you have to put your faith in those you can trust.
a Juventus directors had literally been to my house telling me they wanted to sign me, so [moving to Juventus] was a decision made out of loyalty.
a I feel a kind of responsibility to do well. Not because of how much I cost, but because I came here having hardly played for Real [Madrid].
a A lot of people advised me against this move. They told me to go to a mid-table team?. I dona t think I made the wrong choice.a
It is now understood that the player in not happy with the amount of game time he is getting at the moment and wouldn’t be opposed to a move away from the club.
He could return to Real Madrid itself as Carlo Ancelotti’s men put a A?25m buy-back clause into the deal and have the right of first refusal on the player. But it seems unlikely that the player would want to return to the Bernabeu where his playing time remains far from guaranteed given the quality of the squad.
Liverpool would be getting rid of at least two strikers out of Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert. They will have Divock Origi come to the side from a loan spell at Lille this season. Brendan Rodgers is believed to be in hunt for another striker, someone who fits the FSG bill of “young and talented” and Rodgers’s ideal attributes in a striker- pace, high intensity and mobility. Morata checks off all the boxes in the list.
