Arsenal are facing competition from Newcastle United for the signature of Ipswich wonderkid Tyron Mings.

It is a known fact that Arsenal are interested in signing a centre back and Tyrone Mings caught their attention with is impressive performances in the last one year.

In fact, the youngster has received rave reviews for his performance for Ipswich Town, who are presently in the Championship. Mings would certainly want to make the cut in a top Premier League club, and Arsenal would definitely prove a great place to develop, especially with their constant need for defenders.

However, Newcastle United have entered the fray and could disrupt Arsenala s bid to land the youngster. The gunners already have to fend off competition from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, but now the Toons have also thrown their hat in the ring.

Of course, Newcastle does not have the same kind of financial muscle that the other clubs have, they will definitely be willing to foot the bill for the 10 million rated youngster, especially as they seem to be in the market for young English talent following their signings of Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow.

Playing in the Premier League is always a tempting option for any youngster, but Ipswich are themselves trying hard to get promoted to the top division and do not want to lose their star defender. But irrespective of where they finish at the end of the season, the fact of the matter is that they are bound to lose him to a bigger club, whether now or in the summer.

Newcastle may be a better option for Ipswich as there is the possibility that they can negotiate to keep the player at Ipswich for a longer time, on loan, the same way they did with Nottingham Forest.

Newcastlea s change in policy to sign young English players could well rest on the fact that they have a great re-sale value, especially with the mythical English premium that they seem to come with, irrespective of the rest of the market and value for money of the player.

There were reports that Arsenal had bid 8 million for the youngster, and it will be interesting to see if Newcastle can manage to top that. Also, they would have to convince the player to join them over going to a Champions League, which will be a feat in itself. The fact that they do not have a manager at present could also play into the hands of the gunners.

Arsenal themselves are talking with Villarreala s Paulista, but signing Mings shouldna t be a problem as he would be looked at as a long term replacement for Per Mertesacker.
